Abstract

TDDS, commonly known as transdermal patches, represent a significant advancement in pharmacological treatments, allowing drugs to be delivered through the skin directly into the systemic circulation. This method offers consistent plasma drug levels, enhanced patient compliance and avoidance of hepatic first-pass metabolism. The application of substances to the skin for therapeutic purposes has historical roots, but it was only in the mid-20th century that the skin was explored as a viable route for systemic drug administration.
