Mathematics has been considered a very important subject in India since the beginning. Throwing light on the importance of mathematics, it has been written in Vedanga Jyotish (1000 BC):
Just as the crests of peacocks and the beads of snakes are present on the uppermost part of the body (head), in the same way, Mathematics is the crown jewel in all the parts of the Vedas and scriptures. The famous Jain Mathematician Mahaviracharya has even said in the context of mathematics: What is the use of many Brahmins in the three worlds moving and nonmoving Everything that exists is not possible without Mathematics that is, what is the benefit of talking too much? Whatever is there in this true world, it is not possible to understand it all without mathematics (basis). This fact was well known to Indian mystics, Philosophers and Astrologer, that is why they paid special attention to the development of mathematics from the very beginning. When the knowledge of mathematics was negligible in Arab and European countries, India had made great achievements in this field. People from Arabia and other countries used to come here for trade and along with doing business, they also learned the simple calculation methods here. It was through him that this knowledge reached Europe via Arab countries. From time to time, foreign knowledge-seekers also came and acquired the unique mathematical knowledge here and transmitted it to their country. It would not be an exaggeration to say that till the twelfth century, India was the world's knowledge leader in the field of mathematics.
