Impact of Environmental Education on Environmental Awareness of B. Ed Students

Abstract

   The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of Environmental Education (Subject Taught at Graduation Level) to B. Ed. Students and how that  concept formation about Environment education reflect long term appreciation for environmental awareness of teachers. The study examines the effects of Environmental Education studies on Environmental Awareness of pupil teacher in comparison of non environmental education studies at graduation level. Hence, this study was conducted to assess Pupil teachers’ level of environmental awareness. The survey was conducted on 120 respondents who were students of B Ed programme of CCS University, Meerut in U P state, India.  Environmental Awareness Scale developed by Dr. Seema Dhawan in Hindi and English was used to assess the level of Environmental Awareness of pupil teachers. For statistical analysis ANOVA and Coefficient of Correlation were conducted to determine the effect of Stream, Type of Institutions and environmental study taught as a subject at graduation level on Environmental Awareness.  The result revealed that those B Ed students who taught Environment Education as a subject at Graduation Level, have high level of knowledge/awareness about environmental awareness in comparison of those pupil teachers not taught  Environment Education as a paper at Graduation level.
